How to Clean a Vacuum Sealer

By PantryGear Lab Editorial Team
Quick answer

Unplug the sealer, then wipe the seal bar, gaskets and lid with a damp cloth, and wash any removable drip tray. Keep water out of the pump and vents, and dry everything before use. A clean, dry seal area is essential for a good seal.

A vacuum sealer only seals well when the seal area is clean and dry. A quick wipe after each use keeps it reliable and prevents residue building up.

Unplug first, and keep water out of the pump and vents, never rinse the machine under a tap.

Routine cleaning

  1. Unplug and let it cool (the seal bar gets hot).
  2. Wipe the seal bar, gaskets and lid with a damp cloth.
  3. Wash any removable drip tray, many pop out.
  4. Clear the channel of crumbs or bits that block suction.
  5. Dry fully before the next seal.
If it stops sealing, a dirty or wet seal bar or worn gasket is the usual culprit. And to avoid liquid in the machine, freeze wet foods first, see sealing liquids.

Frequently asked questions

How do I clean my vacuum sealer after liquid got in?

Unplug it, remove and wash the drip tray, and wipe the channel and seal bar. If liquid reached the pump, let it dry fully; prevention (freezing liquids first) is better than cleanup.

Why is my vacuum sealer not sealing?

Often a dirty or wet seal bar or gasket, or crumbs in the channel. Clean and dry the seal area; a clean, dry surface is needed for a firm seal.
